Prophecy BMX’s advanced carbon technology consists of optimizing the design of each BMX race frame to give them exceptional strength and stiffness by adding carbon where it is needed most, but at the same time removing it in areas that need it least. The goal is to achieve the perfect “race” BMX frame in terms of weight / stiffness / performance / comfort. There are 4 important steps to reach this perfection:
A “RACE” BMX frame needs a manufacturing method that has the highest strength to weight ratio available. Some manufacturing methods such as “tube to tube” add weight and do not provide sufficient or at least random strength due to the possibility of voids when joining and tying the tubes together. Thus, only monocoque manufacturing allows for a solid, reliable one-piece frame that avoids most other manufacturing problems.
Several forces are exerted on a BMX “race” frame whether they come directly from the ground (during jumps, landings …) or from the rider (during pedaling, pushes …). These forces push, pull, twist, stretch and compress each tube on the BMX “race” frame in all directions. Using finite element analysis (FEA) and 3D computer simulations, each carbon tube is designed to address these forces. So we do a complete analysis of the frame, pointing out all the stress points to determine the best possible way to design it, and our software allows us to identify all the potential problems and fix them before we even open the tooling.
The Prophecy BMX “race” frame is in fact made of several layers of carbon (pieces of carbon more or less big glued together). Since each piece has a different fiber direction, each piece and layer of carbon fiber used in our frames is placed exactly according to the specifications set by our engineers following finite element analysis (FEA) and 3D computer simulations. This allows the rider to have the stiffest, strongest, lightest and most reliable frame possible on the market.
There are a multitude of carbon fibers available on the market that could potentially be used to make a carbon BMX frame. Prophecy BMX engineers exclusively use TORAY carbon fiber from Japan, which is recognized worldwide for its exceptional performance and quality. According to the areas of the frame or accessories, they will select standard, intermediate or high modules carbon fibers to guarantee a product with optimal resistance, and even improved by the use of our special Epoxy resin from Korea. The choice of this resin is also essential because it allows to have a stable product by increasing the resistance to shocks in the various places of the frame, in particular at the bottom bracket and the head tube.
